DARIO A. NTACA, Pianist / Conductor
Born in Buenos Aires, Darío A. Ntaca emerges as one of the leading musicians of his generation. His successful career as virtuoso pianist and conductor makes him one of most unique and exceptional Latin-American artists. Besides his international engagements in both fields, Mr. Ntaca is the founder of the Sinfonietta Argerich in Argentina, and has been its Music Director since its creation in 2004. He has toured with the Orchestra most of the major musical centers in Argentina with Martha Argerich as soloist. Mrs. Argerich and Mr. Ntaca have also appeared in many occasions as a piano duo, performing regularly at Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, the home for the annual "Martha Argerich International Festival".
Mr. Ntaca has been Music Director the San Luis Orchestra in Argentina from 1990 to 1996 . His most remarkable activities with the SLO include a US tour in 1992 performing throughout Vermont, Massachusetts and Florida where he played and conducted from the keyboard. His performance in Miami was highly praised by the Miami Herald. Later on, in 1995, he was re-engaged to conduct the University of Miami Symphony Orchestra at the opening night of the Festival Miami, also acclaimed unanimously by music critics in Florida. A CD containing highlights from the San Luis Orchestras U.S. tour has been released in 1994. Works include Mozarts Piano Concerto in F, K. 459 with Mr. Ntaca conducting from the keyboard. Mr. Ntaca has appeared as pianist and conductor with the Sinfonietta de Paris, Moravian Philharmonic in the Czech Republic; in Bulgaria with the Burgas Symphony Orchestra, Russe Philharmonic, Varna Philharmonic and Plovdiv Philharmonic Orchestras. He also toured Spain in 1994 with the Oxford Chamber Orchestra. His piano repertoire includes all the works for piano and orchestra by Rachmaninoff and he has performed them in major centers throughout the Americas such as Buenos Aires, Mendoza, Campinas (Sao Paulo), Bogotá, Los Angeles, etc. These performances were acclaimed unanimously by critics and distinguished artists like Martha Argerich in 1990. He is also frequently invited to perform Brahms Piano Concerti. He has appeared as soloist in both of them with the National Symphony Orchestra in Argentina. He also conducts from the keyboard most of Mozarts Piano Concerti.
Mr. Ntaca has performed solo recitals in major international centers such as Paris, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Buenos Aires, New York, etc. The New York Times praised his performance at Carnegie Recital Hall. In addition to these activities, he is the representative for Argentina at the Guild for International Piano Competitions, being subsequently invited to be a juror at the Palm Beach International Piano Competition every year. Mr. Ntaca also gave Master Classes in piano and chamber music in Quito, Bogota, Brasilia, Guatemala, Tokyo, Paris, etc. In 1990 the Dean of the San Juan University in Argentina appointed him Music Director of the International Music Festival. The eldest son of the late Alejandro Ntaca, one of South Americas leading piano pedagogues, he studied under his fathers guidance. He also studied orchestral conducting at Juilliard School with Vincent La Selva and he is a graduate of the State University of New York where he studied with Germán Diez. For his performance of Rachmaninoffs 3rd Piano Concerto, he received the "1983 Concert Award" from the State University of New York and in 1985 he was awarded "Silver Medal" at the Mozart International Competition in Colorado. Mr. Ntaca has worked intensely in the
field of Youth Orchestra Development. He is the founder of the San Luis Youth
Orchestra, and the Greater Buenos Aires Youth Symphony. He has also given
strong technical support to different Youth Orchestras in the Caribbean with
the aid of the Argentine Government such as the Caribbean Chamber Orchestra
in Jamaica and the National Youth Symphony in Barbados. More recently
Mr. Ntaca created the first Youth Symphony Orchestra in the history of the MERCOSUR
(Community
of the South) with members from all the countries belonging to this treaty: (Argentina,
Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay.) The orchestra meets yearly in different music
